Kathmandu: The Gen-G Movement Nepal has demanded the immediate dismissal of Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, alleging his involvement in what it called a “treasonous” power purchase agreement (PPA) with an Indian company that caused significant financial losses to Nepal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Gen-G Movement spokesperson Vijay Shah claimed that an illegal PPA was signed with PTC India Ltd. under the influence of Minister Ghising and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Manoj Silwal, without the approval of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The group alleged that the agreement led to a loss of Rs 430 million, describing it as an “open attack on the country’s economic independence.” The statement further accused Ghising and Silwal of acting “in collusion” to benefit foreign interests at the expense of the nation.
Calling the act a case of corruption and betrayal of national interests, the Gen-G Movement demanded:
-Immediate dismissal of Minister Ghising and the filing of a case against him at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
-Suspension and investigation of NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal under the Money Laundering Act.
-The Electricity Regulatory Commission to form an independent investigation committee and make all power purchase agreements public.
The group also urged the government to initiate legal proceedings to recover state assets and imprison those involved in the alleged anti-national deal.
While acknowledging Ghising’s past reputation as a “hero of light” for ending load-shedding, the Gen-G Movement said that his actions now warranted “immediate dismissal and prosecution” for betraying public trust.
